Chinese state media say 13 people have been killed after an overloaded bus tumbled down a 100-metre slope in the south-western province of Guizhou.

The official Xinhua News Agency said Saturday that the fatal crash in Congjiang county left another 21 people injured, including 10 in serious condition. Xinhua says 34 people were on the bus licensed to carry no more than 19.

On Friday night (local time) in the north-western province of Gansu, another bus went off the road at a curve, rolled down a slope and caught fire, killing eight and injuring 32 others, according to the provincial government.

The crashes come as millions of Chinese are travelling home for the Lunar New Year, which falls on February 10 this year.
