An eight-year-old girl has been rescued after getting her head stuck between the security bars of her sixth storey apartment balcony in Wenzhou city in China's Zhejiang province.

Video footage showed girl trying to hold her body up by gripping two bars with her hands and resting a foot on a supporting bar underneath.

A neighbour from one storey below tried to reach her but failed, so he called firefighters for help, according to CCTV.

State authorities said rescuers broke down the door of her apartment and pulled her to safety.

It was reported the girl, who had been left home alone, climbed onto the security bars to see what had happened after she heard a strange noise from downstairs.

The girl's condition was not provided
