A young Pakistani actress has suffered horrific burn injuries in an acid attack at her home.

Bushra Waiz, an 18-year-old TV star, suffered severe burns to her face, leg, eye and arm after a man allegedly crept into her family home in Nowshera, north west of Islamabad, and threw a corrosive substance over her while she was sleeping.

She was taken to Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar, Pakistan and is in a critical condition.

Her brother Pervez Khan believes the attack could stem from a financial dispute.

Police chief Ijaz Khan said police hoped to make an arrest soon.
