Turns out dogs aren't just man's best friend.

A dog in China has made world headlines after it was spotted keeping guard after another dog was run over in the middle of a busy road.

The little white dog was killed in the middle of a street in Yinchuan, in north west China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, the Daily Mail reported.

The loyal friend spent hours lying by the body even as temperatures plummted overnight to -13 degrees.

Passersby took pictures and videos of the scene, which quickly went viral on the internet.

Somebody placed a stool in front of the dogs to stop them from being hit by another car, a woman told Sky News.

Restaurant workers then removed the dead dog's body and buried it under a tree in a nearby park, the Daily Mail said.

The other dog followed the workers and stayed with them until its friend had been buried.
