China's official news agency says eight schoolchildren were killed and more than 10 injured after a bus carrying them overturned in southern China.

The Xinhua News Agency says the fully loaded bus turned over Thursday while on a school-organized spring outing in the province of Hainan. The brief report does not provide details of what may have caused the accident.

Chinese schools traditionally organize outings in spring and autumn for their students.
