Two teenage girls have been charged with stealing a piggy bank from a dry-cleaning business and assaulting a string of people, including police.
The girls, aged 16 and 17, walked into the business on the corner of Victoria and Lyons roads, Drummoyne, in Sydney's inner west, about 3.45pm yesterday, police said.
They allegedly stole the piggy bank from the front counter and assaulted a female shopkeeper.
They left the store and assaulted a bike rider who was walking along the footpath, punching and kicking him, police said.
A nearby worker and another bystander came to his aid, with the bystander restraining one of the girls. Police were told the bystander was also allegedly assaulted.
A third man then tried to restrain the girls and was kicked and spat on, police said.
Police were also assaulted and spat on when they arrived at the scene.
The girls, from Ashfield, have been charged with robbery, three counts of assault and assaulting police.
They have been refused bail and will appear in Parramatta Children's Court today.
