Two NSW police officers have arrived in Kentucky to bring home the man accused of locking a fake collar bomb around the neck of Sydney schoolgirl Madeleine Pulver.

Detective Inspector Dave Moss and Detective Sergeant Andrew Marks arrived in Louisville late Monday morning local time (early today, NZ time) after being delayed in Los Angeles.

They are working with the FBI and US marshalls to transfer Paul Douglas Peters into their custody, a process that could take one to two days, a police spokesman told AAP on Tuesday.

The 50-year-old investment banker waived his rights to fight his extradition from the US in the Louisville District Court last week.

He has been locked up in Kentucky's Oldham County Jail since his arrest by a US SWAT team at his ex-wife's home, just outside Louisville, on August 15.

Peters faces charges in NSW of kidnapping, aggravated break and enter with intent to commit a serious indictable offence and demanding property with intent to steal.

He's accused of breaking into the Pulver family's luxury Mosman home on August 3 and locking what he claimed was a device containing plastic explosives around 18-year-old Madeleine's neck.

It took a harrowing 10 hours for bomb disposal experts to determine the device was a fake and to free the HSC student.
