A New Zealand man was killed when a caravan caught fire in Hervey Bay on Queensland's Sunshine Coast last night.

The 58-year-old, who has not yet been formally identified, was found when firefighters extinguished the blaze.

The fire was in a caravan parked on a private property in the seaside suburb of Urgangan at about 8.10pm (NZT).

Initial investigations indicate the fire was not suspicious, but police are guarding the scene and forensic experts will sift through the wreckage today.
