In a major security breach at Victoria's parliament house, anti-coal protesters have climbed on to the roof and unfurled a large banner.
Protesters abseiled down the front of the Melbourne building this morning to display the large black and white sign.
It read: "Coal is the single greatest threat to civilisation and all life on our planet."
A further statement said: "Why is Baillieu funding coal?"
At least two protesters were standing on the roof and another two were hanging off ropes beside the sign at mid-morning.
The protesters from the group Quit Coal said the government recently granted A$45 million (NZ$57m) to develop the brown coal export industry, and they would not leave until the money is revoked.
