Police shoot knife-wielding man
Police officers have shot a knife-wielding man who confronted them outside a home in Melbourne's north-west this morning, police say.
The man has been taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with serious injuries after two officers opened fire on him in Elizabeth Street in St Albans about 11.15am.
A woman has also been taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with serious injuries that police say she suffered before officers arrived at the home.
The man and woman's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said police were called to the home about 11am after reports that a woman had been injured.
"Police were confronted by a man allegedly armed with a number of knives and a number of shots were fired by two members," the spokeswoman said.
The woman was found inside the home after the man had been shot.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the shooting, however no further details were available immediately.
An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said paramedics treated both patients, who were in a serious condition.
However she could not provide further details about the man and woman's injuries.
Today's police shooting is the second this week.
In an unrelated shooting on Monday, a police officer opened fire on a man who allegedly pulled out a gun in the car park at Etihad Stadium in Docklands.
Police said four plain-clothed police officers located a stolen vehicle in the car park off Bourke Street about 3pm when a man walked up to the vehicle.
A policeman produced identification and spoke to the man, who allegedly pulled a pistol from the front of his pants and threatened the officer, who ran for cover.
Another police officer then shot the man.
He was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where he is recovering.
Two other men have been charged with burglary.
A Southbank man, 24, and a Docklands man, 23, have been bailed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates Court next year after they were arrested outside the stadium.
