Racial tensions were not a factor in a pub brawl that involved 40 Pacific Islander men and left two people in hospital, Queensland police say.

Officers are reviewing CCTV footage of the all-out brawl at a hotel at Loganholme, south of Brisbane, about 4am (AEST) on Friday.

It's unclear what sparked the violence but media reports said it may have been linked to a dispute over a woman's handbag.

Superintendent Noel Powers said racial tensions were not a factor and blamed a combination of alcohol, heat and heightened emotions.

''I dare say the humidity, the heat, a little bit of drink were probably contributing factors,'' he told ABC radio.

He said one of the injured men had suffered a fractured eye socket.Paramedics earlier said the man would need surgery.

The second injured man suffered only minor injuries.

''We're working with (hotel) management to view CCTV footage and identify those responsible, what started it,'' Superintendent Powers said.

''I dare say, without knowing the full facts, we'd be looking at some assault charges."
