Australian schoolies riding inflatable unicorns rescued
An Australian man returned from a fishing trip with a bigger haul than he was expecting after fishing four school leavers from the water.
Saltwater fisherman Alex King was squid fishing off the coast of Cowes, on Phillip Island, when he spotted two giant inflatable unicorns, flamingos and a dinosaur.
On closer inspection, he found there were four teenage girls on the inflatable rafts in need of a helping hand.
King said the young women were "floating helplessly into the western entrance current".
The water off Cowes has been known to harbour great white sharks.
The fisherman told radio station 3AW he was in "the right place, at the right time".
"My mate Tristan said check that out, there's a pink flamingo," he said.
"The wind blew them slightly offshore and the western entrance current picked them up and started taking them out to Bass Straight."
It is schoolies week in Victoria, with thousands of students flocking to coastal areas and other states to celebrate the end of their year 12 exams.
