A Kiwi broke into a police station in Australia - because he wanted to be locked up.
Karl Claude Johns had been rowing with his girlfriend and drinking heavily the night before he kicked in two doors at a station in Gordonvale, far north Queensland.
The Cairns Post reported that once inside the station Johns damaged police property, swore at officers, yelled "Come and try and get me" and then begged: "I want to get locked up."
One officer even had to draw a Taser on him.
His lawyer, Jefferson Mobbs, told the court: "He went to the station in an attempt to be arrested ... it was a futile attempt at being locked up."
Johns pleaded guilty at Cairns Magistrates' Court to public nuisance, wilful damage and breaking and entering.
The prosecutor, Tara Williams, claimed Johns's antics on the morning of September 21 had caused A$15,000 worth of damage but Magistrate Anthony Gett said he had not seen any evidence that pointed to that figure.
He fined Johns A$600.
