A military plane and a glider have collided over Britain, killing two people.

Police said the pilot of the glider parachuted to safety, but the Ministry of Defence said both service members aboard the single-engine Royal Air Force training aircraft died.

The accident occurred over Oxfordshire, about 97 kilometres northwest of London.

Eyewitness James O'Neill told the BBC he heard a loud crash before seeing the wreckage of a light aircraft and glider in a field. He said he also saw the glider pilot parachute to the ground.
