A 54-year-old British mother of eight has revealed she is pregnant with twins.

Karen Johnston, who has already been through menopause, fell pregnant after visiting two clinics in the Czech Republic where she underwent IVF treatment using donor eggs.

Johnston, who gave birth to her first son Daniel 33 years ago, says she is addicted to having babies.

"For years I thought I'd never be able to have another child and that's all I wanted," she told the Daily Mirror newspaper.

"While I know that a lot of women aren't able to have as many children as I've had, and I do feel lucky, I still felt I needed more.

"I couldn't see why just because I had seven children already that meant I should try to ignore my desire to have an eighth."

Johnston is due to give birth to her twins in June.
