An aide to Foreign Secretary William Hague has resigned because of "malicious" rumours questioning whether he had an inappropriate relationship with his boss.
Hague says in a statement released Wednesday that 25-year-old Christopher Myers is leaving his post because of the pressures caused by the false allegations on the internet.
Hague denies having any improper relationship with Myers and says he has never had a relationship with a man.
In an unusual personal statement, he says that he and his wife Ffion have been trying to start a family but that she has suffered several miscarriages, including one this summer.
Hague says the couple's infertility problems have been traumatic, but have brought him and his wife closer together.
