Elizabeth, Frances, Diana, Charles and John are among the early front runners for the name of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's first child.

Bookmaker William Hill has odds of 9/1 for Frances and John, with Charles, Victoria and George at 10/1. Anne, Diana, Phillip, Richard and Spencer are at 12/1; Mary, Henry and Sarah at 14/1; Carole, William and Edward at 16/1; Alice, David, Victoria, Albert and Arthur at 20/1; and Elizabeth at 25/1.

William Hill predicted punters could bet as much as $2 million on the child's name.

At Ladbrokes, the Royal couple naming their baby Elizabeth after her great-grandmother, the Queen, was the 8/1 favourite, with Frances, John and Charles all on 10/1.

Odds on the child being called Diana, after William's late mother, were offered 12/1, with the same odds for Anne and James, The Telegraph reported.

Ladbrokes had George and Mary, both names of former English monarchs, at 14/1, with David and Jessica, names with sporting connections, on 20/1.

Jessica Bridge, of Ladbrokes, said: "Kate and Wills pulled the wool over our eyes, but now attention turns to the name of the baby and it looks like the couple will stick with a traditional name."

Bookmaker Paddy Power had Mary, Victoria and John on 8/1, with Diana and Frances on 9/1. It rated Camilla, the name of William's stepmother, as an unlikely 66/1 and Fergie as an outside chance on 250/1.

Odds are also being offered for the colour of the baby's hair, with brown at 6/4, blonde at 2/1, black at 5/2, and ginger at 8/1.

William Hill said it would pay out a "small five-figure sum" after many people bet on a 2013 royal baby.
