British mum of three jailed for sexual relationship with 14-year-old boy
A British woman has been jailed for engaging in an 18-month sexual relationship with a teen boy, because she became "fed up" after he repeatedly "pestered" her.
Mum-of-three Christine Mitchell, 42, admitted to three offences of sexual activity with a child between October 2009 and May 2011, the Scunthorpe Telegraph reported.
The 14-year-old boy was keen to experiment sexually, and propositioned Mitchell via text messaging "to see what she would say", Grimsby Crown Court heard.
The teen asked: "Would you like to have sex?"
She replied asking if anyone would find out, and when he reassured her, she texted back: "Okay then."
They later went into her bathroom at her home and engaged in sexual activity.
Mitchell later told police the boy had "pestered her" and she felt under pressure, intimidated and too ashamed to tell anybody, the Scunthorpe Telegraph reported.
"I got fed up with saying 'No'," she said.
Mitchell's lawyers said she had struggled to come to terms with what she had done but eventually pleaded guilty.
Mitchell was jailed for three years and ordered to notify her details as a sex offender for life.
Judge Paul Watson QC said the offences were extremely serious.
"It's always a serious offence to engage in sexual activity with children under 16," said Watson.
"The law exists to protect children from themselves and you willingly engaged in sexual activity with him on a number occasions."
