Graphic video showing the sunken Tongan ferry Princess Ashika will be shown to the Royal Commission of Inquiry in Nuku'alofa.

It is investigating the August sinking in which 74 people died.

A Royal New Zealand Navy robot submarine filmed the ship on the seabed, but only a small portion of it has been ever made public.

It is understood to show images of human remains on the ship and on the seabed.

The Tongan Government says that "in the interests of transparency" the whole video will be screened on Friday.

"The commission appreciates that the video, lasting about one and half hour, could be very distressing," the government says.

"Due to the nature of the video, children will not be allowed to view the video."
