A deep quake measuring around 7.2 on the on the Richter Scale has struck 120 kilometres north-east of Nadi, Fiji.
The quake however was at a depth of 574 kilometres and there were no immediate reports of damage.
GeoNet reported the quake at 6.8 on the Richter Scale while US Geological Service reported the quake measured 7.2.
The quake's depth meant a tsunami warning was not generated, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said.
