The body of man found on a cocaine-stuffed boat that ran aground in Tonga is to be buried there, after no one came forward to claim his body.

The wreck of the yacht JeReVe was found on November 7 on a reef at Luatafito Atoll in northern Tonga, along with 204kgs of drugs and a body later identified as a Slovakian national.

Police Commissioner Grant O'Fee told Matangi Tonga there had been no contact with the family.

The body was in the morgue in Neiafu on Vava'u, but couldn't be kept any longer.

"We will bury the body in Vava'u as soon as possible," he said.

"We can't keep it any longer since the body was badly decomposed when we got it. We held it since November awaiting contact from his next of kin but no one has made contact."
