A six-year-old boy from Auckland has been killed in a shooting incident in Fiji.

A 14-year-old local boy was also wounded in the incident and is in a critical condition.

Fijilive said the incident happened at 6pm yesterday in the Lautoka suburb of Sabeto Hill.

It said the dead boy’s family was in Lautoka to help build a house.

The deceased had accompanied a relative who owned the gun to the site while his parents and relatives were inspecting the house.

Fijilive said the family heard a gunshot and rushed out to find the two boys badly injured.

The six-year-old, who is yet to be named, was dead on arrival at the hospital.

Police are investigating the incident as the gun owner is in custody.
