As cool weather descends upon us and summer begins to feel like a distant memory, it comes time to put away the outdoor furniture and pull out your warm rugs. Read on for the top five trends that will rule the home this autumn.
RICH COLOUR PALETTES
Triana Odone, King Living's Resident Trends Expert, said the autumn colour palette is moving towards rich, deep-hued tones of teal, bronze, ochre, charcoal and terracotta with accents of jewel colours such as ruby, sapphire and emerald.
"We are seeing less use of the Scandinavian pastel colours for autumn and winter and instead, an emphasis on grey based tones for sofas, with a gradual move towards warmer hues and brown tones," Odone said.
TEXTURE AND LAYERING
"Texture and layering are important elements emerging in autumn/winter styles, with the placement of coffee tables in interesting groupings with a variety of finishes such as marble and timber," Odone said.
"We are also seeing arrangements of different shapes and sizes of cushions in velvet and plush chenilles and looped and subtle geometric and organic patterned rugs."
EMBRACE YOUR INNER NOMAD
Goodbye minimalism, hello Global Nomad. Less is more is no longer a thing as autumn styling leans towards the eclectic, decor-filled interiors that bohemians have been embracing for years.
"The 'Global Nomad' is an eclectic but sophisticated blend of tribal meets traveller," Odone said.
"However, glamour continues in luxurious and cut pile velvets, metallics and delicate, detailed and embroidered patterns."
GREENERY IS HERE TO STAY
The indoor plant trend has continued to thrive into autumn. Odone said the addition of greenery is a simple way to bring life to your interiors while you are stuck indoors.
"People can be especially drawn to the natural feel of a room when their outside choices are limited by the colder months."
GO YOUR OWN WAY
Odone said the personalisation and customisation of homeware will continue to be a key trend throughout autumn. Embrace you inner individualist and tailor products to create a unique look that will suit your own personal style.
