A business near Mt Smart Stadium has been engulfed in flames

Fire and Emergency NZ shift supervisor Colin Underdown said the single level commercial building on Station Rd, Otahuhu, about two kilometres south of the stadium, was well alight.

About 30 per cent of the building was on fire and crews were blasting water from outside the premises, Underdown said.

The fire has escalated to the third alarm.

No people were reported inside when the fire erupted.

Underdown said there had already been talk among crews of how the battle against the blaze could affect the thousands of concert goers leaving Irish band U2's gig.

A concert-goer said there was no disruption to the gig as of about 10.30pm.
