West Auckland takeaway shop owner has scissors held to throat in robbery
A takeaway shop owner was threatened with a pair of scissors held to his throat in front of young children during a robbery in the West Auckland suburb of Sunnyvale.
Two men entered Sunnyvale Takeaways, on Sunnyside Rd around 8pm on Saturday, armed with scissors and a knife.
One of the men held the scissors to the shop owner's throat, while the other stole the cash register.
Detective Sergeant Kelly Farrant said the shop owner had young children in the store who witnessed the robbery.
Farrant is asking anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area on Saturday to come forward.
"This has been extremely distressing for everyone involved and we are committed to finding those responsible."
The men fled towards Awaroa Road. Police and members of the public chased them, but they were not able to be located, Farrant said.
