Northland hasn't been spared from the wild conditions, with rain the region going into Sunday, along with a moderate risk of thunder.

However, Auckland and Northland can look forward to a comparatively dry Sunday as the band of wet weather heads southeast.

Last weekend, a violent thunderstorm landed between 100 and 150 lightning strikes across the Auckland region, with some striking the top of the iconic Sky Tower.
