A person has been taken to hospital after their car collided with a power pole in south-east Auckland.

The pole fell down as a result of the crash, causing a power outage to the surrounding area.

Police were called to the scene, on Whitford Road, about 5.30pm on Sunday.

They closed the road in both directions between Summerville Rd and Broomfields Rd. Diversions were in place while the area was cleared.

The person was taken to Middlemore Hospital with moderate injuries.

Lines company Vector said power was out in Whitford as a result, and they were "on their way" to fix it.

Vector was also called to another power outage as a result of a crash between a car and a power pole in Mt Albert.

Police said that incident happened around 5pm, and there were no injuries.
