Beachlands Volunteer Fire Brigade was greeted by the wall of mud and trees.

A wall of mud and pine trees are blocking Maraetai Coast Rd, cutting power to 1500 homes

Volunteer firefighters have called in contractors to try and unblock the key road linking Maraetai to Clevedon in Auckland's southeast.

A Fire and Emergency Services New Zealand spokeswoman said the slip was reported just after 9.40pm on Thursday.

A Vector spokeswoman said the slip had forced line crews to take a long detour to reach power lines affected by fallen trees.

It was unclear whether the slip cut power or it was a separate incident, the spokeswoman said.

Power was expected to be restored to 1500 homes in Clevedon and Maraetai by 4am on Friday.

Auckland's southeast has once again been drenched by heavy rain.

In March, the Auckland region was hit by the Tasman Tempest which dumped huge amounts of water on areas like Clevedon saturating land.
