'Modern' medical hub opens in Rosedale
Creating a community for both medical professionals and patients alike is one of the aims of a new medical centre in Upper Harbour.
Northcare Accident & Medical in Rosedale is a new hub of emergency, specialist and general medical services.
Around 150 attended its opening, including Minister of Health Jonathan Coleman, on August 31.
Northcare medical director and GP Peter Boot said the facility was not like a typical medical centre and "less threatening" for patients.
"It's open, it's got natural light, the smell of the cafe comes through, rather than it being sort of a clinical situation like a hospital," he said.
Northcare is open seven days and offers emergency facilities, x-rays, physiotherapists, dentists and laboratory collection.
Specialists include audiology, renal, respiratory and sleep, spinal and orthopaedic services.
A pharmacy and cafe are also on-site, and the foyer features an illuminated 'forest' of birds and trees which change colour.
Patients are able to book online and prescriptions sent electronically to the pharmacist - all part of the "modern" feel of the centre, Boot said.
It is also an "exciting" place to work and learn as a doctor.
"We have a lot of different specialists coming and going. It's hopefully a place where there's a great academic interest as well as patient convenience," he said.
Northcare Accident & Medical is located at 5 Home Place, Rosedale.
It was previously known as Albany Basin Accident and Medical, located at Upper Harbour Highway and Unsworth Drive.
