Prime lamb market surges ahead at Coalgate livestock sale

Prime lambs climbed in value by $5 to $10 a head at livestock sales at Coalgate last week.

Top lambs reached $188 in a strong market.

Top prime ewes made $180 in a mixed market.

Prime steers and heifers increased 10 cents a kilogram from last week.

Values: A strong prime lamb market lifted by $5 to $10 per head. Tops made $170 - $188, good $150 - $170, medium $140 - $150 and light $130 - $140.

Prime cattle

Values: The prime cattle market lifted by 10 cents for quality steers and heifers. Angus steers at 570 kilograms made $3.06/kg, limousin cross steers at 625kg made $3.16, hereford friesian cross steers at 555kg made $3.12, angus heifers at 555kg made $3.07 and limousin bulls made $3.28 to $3.39. Steers made $3/kg - $3.18, heifers $2.84 - $3.09, cows $1.91 - $2.15 and bulls $2.10 - $3.38.
