Police end search of Oriental Bay in Wellington after concern raised for swimmer

Police search for missing woman in Oriental Bay

Police have ended their search off Oriental Bay after it was reported a swimmer was in trouble in the water on Tuesday morning. 

A police boat and dive squad assisted in the search, which was called off in the afternoon. 

Police had asked members of the public if they'd seen a woman wearing a bikini in the water.

"Officers have spoken to a number of people in the area at the time, and the Police Dive Squad conducted a search, and no person or item of note has been located," a spokeswoman said. 

Police would like to talk to any swimmer who may have held onto a buoy out from Oriental Bay around 10am on Tuesday.

Wellington Police Maritime Unit asked anyone with information on to call 105.
