Randwick interchange player Starr Masae gets well and truly rounded up by the University Hunters, during Saturday's Wellington club rugby league clash at Kelburn Park.

The University Hunters are semifinal bound.

Needing to beat Randwick, at Kelburn Park on Saturday, to qualify for the Wellington club rugby league playoffs, University were finally able to prevail 20-16. That saw them qualify as the last of of the four qualifiers and they'll now meet minor premiers Wainuiomata at Wise Park in the semifinals.

The other semi will feature two teams who are fairly familiar with each other.

It was only on Saturday that Whiti Te Ra and Te Aroha last met. Playing at the Otaki Domain, hosts Whiti Te Ra finally got up to win 28-26.

The two teams will now meet again, in what's a repeat of the 2016 grand final. On that occasion Te Aroha went into that match as defending champions, but ultimately conceded their title to Whiti Te Ra in a 26-24 cliffhanger.

No-one would be surprised to see the final margin be two points yet again.
