Five Star Wars spin-offs we want to see
OPINION: A new Star Wars spin-off featuring Obi-Wan Kenobi is on the way. And now there's a great disturbance in the Force once again as it gets diluted by the Disney corporate cash cow seeking the omni-present buck.
The House of Mouse seems determined to water down the brand with spin-offs becoming the norm after Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and the young Han Solo movie, so we thought it would be a good time to offer up some new ideas for them to consider if they're going to march down this path. Here's hoping some (or none...) of them hit a cinema soon in a galaxy far, far closer to home.
Jar Jar Binks - Saved By The Bell
Just imagine it, Jar Jar's high school years are explored in this spin-off which itself has spin-off potential.
From his group of chums, including robotic bud 5-Creech to his constant nemesis, Principal Bel-D1ng, Jar Jar's got his hands full in this hilarious film that matches the Jar Jar you love with a high school universe you've never explored, but can easily identify with.
R2-D2 is 'Knight Rider'
Forget KITT, R2-D2 has got crime covered as the plucky little bot teams up with David Hasselhoff to save the day.
Loved William Daniels' slightly snarky tones as the voice of KITT? Well, you will adore the bleeping sounds of R2 as he wisecracks his way to justice in this spin-off that's aimed squarely at families of both human and robot gender.
Greedo is 'The Bounty Hunter'
Mired in an eternal debate over who shot first, forget all the slander in this prequel to that infamous Mos Eisley meeting.
Follow Greedo as he tries to make a buck and bring in the bad guys, in a kind of sci-fi cross between the Star Wars universe and The Fall Guy. Added bonus points for having the potential to provide darker and emotionally heftier material.
Jabba The Hutt is MasterChef
He's best known as one of the galaxy's most powerful gangsters, but did you know this obese slug-like critter first had a career as a MasterChef judge, sampling the best the hive of scum and villainy could serve up to him?
Watch him taste, slurp and applaud the galaxy's best culinary talent in this new grittier Neflix series - but cringe as one hopeful serves up a dish with too much salt. What happens next will surprise you.
Admiral Ackbar is 'Wanted in Ocean's 15'
He may command the rebel fleet in their attack against the Death Star in his best known role, but this Mon Calamari leader is also the lead in a thrilling heist film where the stakes are high and yet somehow personal as well. Ackbar plays the mastermind of the caper, and sits it out back in a safe storage unit making sure it all goes to plan for the assembled team.
Can also form a drinking game at home or in the cinema for every time he shouts "It's a Trap!" during tense and exciting set pieces that proffer more twists and turns than you'd ever expect from a Star Wars film.
