Daniel Craig to undergo minor ankle surgery for Bond injury

James Bond is out of commission for a few weeks.

Star Daniel Craig is undergoing minor ankle surgery after sustaining an injury while filming the 25th installment in the franchise in Jamaica.

The Sun reports that Craig, 51, slipped while running and fell awkwardly on set last week while filming an action sequence. His ankle was injured as a result. Craig was then flown from Jamaica to the US for X-rays.

The news comes Wednesday in a tweet from the official James Bond twitter account.

The statement says that production will continue during the 51-year-old actor's two-week post-surgery rehabilitation and that the film will stay on track to hit its April 2020 release date.

"Production will continue whilst Craig is rehabilitating for two weeks post- surgery.

"The film remains on track for the same release date in April 2020."

The 25th Bond instalment will be Craig's fifth outing as 007.

Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Rory Kinnear, Naomie Harris and Jeffrey Wright are also returning.

Oscar winner Rami Malek, Captain Marvel star Lashana Lynch and Game Night actor Billy Magnussen are joining the cast.
