PlayStation's new PlayLink app launches with party game quiz That's You!
One of the more interesting announcements to come out of PlayStation's E3 showcase was the launch of PlayLink, Sony's new multiplayer app that allows you and your friends to play a range of PS4 games without ever needing to pick up a controller.
After downloading the PlayLink app, you're able to use your smartphone or tablet to interact with each other and affect what's happening on screen.
Obviously the touchscreen input limits the kind of games that will work on the system - you're unlikely to find any fast-paced action titles or shooters added to the lineup, but it's perfect for turn-based contests and party games.
PlayLink has clearly been designed with families and casual gamers in mind and the first game to be launched for the app is That's You!, a quickfire social quiz where players compete to find out just how well they know each other.

It's all very much tongue-in-cheek and light-hearted, and most questions are based around what each person would do in a certain situation, who would be the most likely to do something or what kind of quirks and characteristics each player has.
Your artistic skills are also put to the test as one player poses for the camera while the others use their touchscreens to draw them in compromising situations or transform them into a wild animal.
Points are awarded for going along with the majority, and you'll rack up huge scores if everybody agrees. You can also choose to play a joker card once per game to double your tally if you're absolutely certain you've got it sussed.
If that all sounds a bit silly, well, that's because it is, but as long as you're not the sort of person who takes themselves far too seriously, it's almost impossible not to enjoy it.
Most Kiwis excel at taking the piss out of their mates and That's You! has been completely built around the idea of a bit of good-natured ribbing.
It's the sort of thing that's bound to go down well if you fire it up after getting back from the pub or when the dishes have been cleared away at a dinner party. And because there's no complicated buttons or controls to explain, it's easy for anyone to pick up even if they're not much of a gamer.
One of the best things about That's You is that most of the questions are left deliberately open-ended, meaning you can be mean and offensive if you're playing against friends who will take it and dish it out, or keep things family friendly if you've got the in-laws over.
The only downside I found was the need for every player to have the PlayLink app installed on their phone before the fun can begin. Other party-based quiz games (Jackbox etc) use a web-based lobby but PlayLink requires a 176mb download for iPhones or 80mb on Android.
Getting six players to find the link on the App store and waiting for it to install is a bit of a hassle, and not everybody will have room on their already cluttered smartphone screens for yet another app.
For a game that's all about pick-up-and-play, fast-paced fun, it's a bit of an annoying hurdle to clear, but once it's done, you won't have to worry about it again.
That's You is free to play if you're a PlayStation Plus subscriber, so it's well worth checking out. Just make sure you clear some space on your phone beforehand.
