Top of the Lake: China Girl gets NZ TV airdate
Sky TV has finally set a date for the debut of Jane Campion's eagerly-anticipated Top of the Lake: China Girl.
August 22 will be when viewers around the country will finally be able to see the first episode of the six-part follow-up to 2013's New Zealand-shot Top of the Lake. Wellingtonian and Auckland cinemagoers have the opportunity to see the whole shebang in the last weekend of July as part of the New Zealand International Film Festival.
Both of those screenings screenings will feature an introduction by Campion and co-writer Gerard Lee.
* Jane Campion's Top of the Lake season 2 to debut at NZ Film Fest
* Jane Campion: the Kiwi director talks success and Top of the Lake's second season
* New trailer for Kiwi-directed crime drama Top of the Lake, but no New Zealand
* Nicole Kidman to star in Top of the Lake season 2: China Girl
Starring Elizabeth Moss, Nicole Kidman and Star Wars' Gwendoline Christie, the Sydney-set story opens with Moss' Detective Robin Griffin recently returned to Sydney and trying to rebuild her life. When the body of an Asian girl washes up on Bondi Beach, there appears little hope of finding the killer, until Robin realises "China Girl" didn't die alone.
The series received rave reviews and a standing ovation at its international premiere at May's Cannes Film Festival, the first time the festival had screened a television series. But while the BBC have chosen to place the entire series online at once, Sky at this stage has only announced plans to air episodes weekly on UKTV.
