Auckland students plan to take risks on My Kitchen Rules NZ
Two east Auckland students have long been fans of My Kitchen Rules and now they are on the show - competing against other New Zealand foodies.
Mission Bay resident Maddie Hunt, 20, and Whitford resident Charlotte Brown, 19, have been best friends for five years and are barely apart.
When they applied for My Kitchen Rules NZ, Brown was positive they were going to get selected, she said.
My Kitchen Rules was originally an Australian cooking competition show where teams of two compete against other duos. The teams transform their homes into a restaurant experience and are judged by the other groups as well as professional chefs Manu Feildel and Pete Evans.

There have been several overseas versions of the show and the New Zealand version first aired in 2014. It is now in its third season.
Hunt and Brown are known for being the youngest cooks in the competition and are two of the youngest in My Kitchen Rules Australasia history.
They enjoyed the label because they saw it as a big point of difference, Brown said.
"We're in with the trends and we'll take more risks," Brown said.
"We have such different tastes so we kind of bring what we love each and make something that we love together," Hunt said.
Hunt was inspired by her best friend, fresh produce and cool food trends, she said.
Wholefoods, dishes they saw on photo-sharing app Instagram, fruits and vegetables also inspired the duo, Brown said.
While Hunt likes to have order and a plan in the kitchen, Brown never follows a recipe. Their two different styles meant they had a bigger range of ideas and food to work with, Hunt said.
"We don't clash and she knows me better than I know myself," Brown said.
"People don't realise how well we know each other - I know how she's feeling in the kitchen," Hunt said.
Their favourite Auckland cafes are Cafe on Kohi, Winona Forever and Catroux.
"Cafe on Kohi is a good atmosphere and it's nice how it's near the water," Hunt said.
Brown usually orders a salad while Hunt gets scrambled eggs with bacon on the side.
Taking part in My Kitchen Rules NZ was the coolest thing they had ever done, Brown said.
Their episode airs on Monday, she said.
"I have faith in us."
