Victoria's Secret angel Georgia Fowler was in Auckland earlier this month visiting family. The Auckland girl turned international model superstar has posed for big brands like Chanel, Miu Miu and Michael Kors. While the 25-year-old beauty is the model of the moment, she hasn't forgotten her Kiwi roots. She tells Laura Baker about her love for chocolate fish and a decent cup of local coffee.

I get back to New Zealand a couple of times a year, it's really just to see family. I stay with my nana and catch up with my cousins and aunties. We do a lot of big family dinners together and hang out at the beach. My visits are normally quite short so I like to turn my phone off and really try to be home for a minute. I miss them so much, we're all very close so it's hard to be away.

As a young teen I really wanted to get a job in engineering. I went to Auckland's Diocesan School for Girls. I loved school and loved learning, I was a bit of a geek. Maths and science were my favourite subjects. I worked my butt off and graduated a year early so I could pursue international modelling jobs. I was always told I should get a degree, it was the way I was brought up. So, I signed up to university by correspondence and started a Bachelor of science majoring in psychology, but two years in I had to put it on the back-burner. It become too difficult to juggle work and study, every minute I wasn't working I was having to study, either that or was on a plane. Hopefully I'll revisit it in time.

I started modelling when I was 15 years old, that's when I was signed to IMG Models. But I was discovered when I was 12. My older sister had a casting at a local modelling agency and I wasn't old enough to stay home alone, so I tagged along with her and we both got put on the books. It was something that happened quite naturally, I love travelling and it was a lot easier than working in a coffee shop. While it was something that found me it wasn't a fast projectile. Some girls get everything then and there, but for me I've had to work for my jobs. I had been modelling for 10 years and auditioned for the Victoria's Secret fashion show five years in a row before I got on their runway. I've given up a lot to do this over the years, which is why I appreciate it so much more.

New York is home for me now, or at least it's where I stop off to pack my bags. Everyone thinks modelling is a very glamorous lifestyle, but what they don't realise is it's pretty tough. I'm usually on several flights a week and I'm alone in hotel rooms a lot. Sometimes I wish I was at home with my family or that I didn't have to go to the gym. From the outside it looks fancy, but sometimes, I assure you, it's not.

If I'm lucky enough to have a Sunday off I'll catch up with my gorgeous friends. One of my best girlfriends is a Nike master trainer, Kirsty Godso. I'm also friends with models and makeup artists. I've got lots of friends settled in the city now, but when I initially moved here it was hard because everyone is so transient. I've now got a solid group, which is very important because none of us have any family here. If I ever have a quiet night on the couch I know I can call one of them for company. To relax and clear my head I like to go for a walks in Central Park or down the West Side Highway along the Hudson River.

My guilty pleasure is chocolate. I love a good bit of chocolate, one of my favourite kinds is chocolate fish. You don't get them overseas so my mum will often send me chocolate fish from home. I always look forward to those care packages. Oh, and decent Kiwi coffee, I miss that terribly when I'm away. It's simply not the same here (New York).

I try to keep my skincare routine as simple as possible. I don't like to put on a lot of makeup on because I'm always getting it packed on for work. Instead of using foundation i'll dab a little concealer under my eyes and on any spots, then blend it out with a good moisturiser. I like use an all natural moisturiser called Weleda Skin Food. It's especially good when I'm flying a lot because it's super hydrating. I exfoliate about twice a week and always take my makeup off with a makeup remover like Bioderma Crealine micellar water.
I feel most me in a sexy suit. Because I'm being photographed all the time, often with little or no notice and meeting people in the fashion industry you kind of have to have a decent wardrobe and look a certain way. On the daily I go for a clean jean and T-shirt combo with a nice boot to elevate it. If I'm dressing up for an event I love to wear a suit, especially when all the other girls are in beautiful dresses. I go for a really sexy 'smoker's' suit. In that moment, that's when I feel most me.
