Meet the unicorn puppy who's charmed the internet.

A puppy with a "unicorn" has been rescued off the streets in the US.

Narwhal the dog was taken in by Mac's Mission, a dog rescue centre, after being found wandering around and without a home in Kansas.

Steffen the owner of the centre told Today "he named the dog Narwhal after the type of whale that lives in Arctic waters and has a protruding tusk."

The centre also revealed everyone's been asking if the extra tail on his face wagged or not.

"The million dollar question about Narwhal's extra tail on his face. Is it connected and does it wag?

"The extra tail is not connected to anything and has no real use other than making him the COOLEST PUPPY EVER!"

But it also said that doctors had said there was no real reason for the unicorn tail to be removed.

Narwhal's extra tail is just skin, but doctors say there's no point removing it as the puppy is happy.

"The unicorn face tail does not bother Narwhal and he never slows down just like any normal puppy.

"He seems completely healthy other than some usual puppy worms he got meds for. He is not available for adoption immediately as we want him to grow a bit more and truly make sure the tail doesn't become a bother or problem.

"Right now he is pretty much the most unique amazing example of what we do here and we are so thankful to have the chance to be part of his journey. Thank you everyone for helping us help them!" the post concluded.

The doctor also told Today that they'd done XRays on Narwhal to see if there was any danger, but the extra tail was just skin.

"I certainly do not see anything that's causing any harm or complications," he said.

"The puppy couldn't be any sweeter or happier. He's really just an awesome puppy that brings awareness to the great work at Mac's Mission."
