Gardens unveiled to public as part of popular Wairau tour
Two 'secret' gardens never before opened to the public will be revealed as part of a special tour in Marlborough.
The Wairau Valley Anglican Parish will hold its popular annual tour of country gardens on Saturday and Sunday.
Long-time organiser Nicki Stace says the nine new additions to the tour will take the total number of gardens on show to 11 and early blooms promise to ensure there is lots to see.
"It's been a wet winter and this has been good for some gardens, and no so good for others.
"Gardens this year are all delightfully country style, with lots of early bloom and natives featuring," she says.
This year's gardens are in Bedford Rd, near Renwick and the Waihopai Valley, including two which have never previously been included.
The tours were first started by gardener Val Mapp more than 25 years ago and have proved to be the parish's most successful fundraiser.
Refreshments, including tea and scones and a sausage sizzle will be available at selected gardens along the self-drive tour.
"If the weather is right, it's a lovely day out."
Tickets are available from Roselands Pets and Plants, Selmes Garden Nursery, Devon Nursery, Islington Garden Centre and the Renwick Dairy and cost $20.
