''Stunning' renovation included in Wellington Master Builder awards
The best of the new and the old are celebrated in the Wellington Wairarapa Registered Master Builders Awards this year – the builders of a new house on the Kapiti Coast and a large renovation project in Mount Victoria took out the Supreme Awards.
Planit Construction's work on the historic Mount Victoria house saw the firm win a massive six awards for the project, starting with the Wellington Wairarapa Registered Master Builders 2017 Supreme Renovation of the Year Award. The team also collected a Gold Award and Category win in the Renovation over $1 million category, the Craftsmanship Award, the Plumbing World Bathroom Excellence Award and the Heart of the Home Kitchen Award.
And it's the kitchen that truly delights in this house renovation, which was designed by Clare Bush Architects. The judges described the renovation as "simply stunning", with the kitchen being a "delightful addition" to the house.
"Both the interior and exterior of the main house were extensively remodelled, with the design and detailing being matched perfectly with the existing home. The interior layout, quality fixtures and fittings, heating and modern appliances guarantee comfortable contemporary living for generations to come."
"And good old-fashioned craftsmanship of the builders and joiners was clear to see. An excellent job worthy of this award."
S & J Mackay Builders scored four awards for the new house at Kapiti. The team won the Wellington Wairarapa Registered Master Builders 2017 Supreme House of the Year, a Gold Award and Category win for the Nulook New Home $700,000 - $1 million category, and the Outdoor Living Award.
The new house, designed by Hunter Architecture, was built on a restricted site with the sea and a tranquil lake to the north, and beautiful native planting to the south.
The judges said the connection between indoor and outdoor was well thought out, with bunker-like garages, providing privacy between the street and house.
"The home has a high sustainability aspect, with the use of passive heat gain, high insulation levels, durable cladding systems, and the use of grey water for irrigation.
"The extensive use of colour and texture adds to the casual feel of this beautiful home worthy of this award.
