Fabulous French chateau to be auctioned with no reserve gallery

Renaissance chateau in Loire Valley to be sold at auction, with no reserve.

Chateau Carbonnieres is a magical Renaissance chateau beautifully situated in the Loire Valley, and it's up for sale.

But what is most remarkable is the fact that it is scheduled to be sold at an auction with no reserve.

So, just how much will you need to live like royalty in your own chateau? No-one can know for sure, but we assume there must be actual buyers out there who will show up at the auction on October 11. As a guide, the property was formerly listed for €9 million (NZ$14.79 million).

The original castle dates back to the 16th century, and it was expanded in the 18th century. Concierge Auctions says it has been a "playground to lords, noblemen, and royalty". Henry IV was a frequent visitor during the 16th century. During World War II, the chateau was occupied by German forces.

In 2010, there was a massive renovation of the 2800 square-metre building. But it still retains all the original splendour, from the exquisite marquetry floors to the spiral staircase and grand chandeliers.

There are 20 bedrooms, an 18th-century French country kitchen in the original tower, and a private owners' suite.

Compare this to our own former Prime Minister's Parnell residence, which sold recently for an estimated $20 million. Which do you think is better value?
