Why this celeb couple are having '30 days of silence' after their baby arrives
As many new parents soon discover, managing the influx of visitors eager for newborn cuddles can be quite the challenge. As lovely as it is to show off bub, a constant stream of grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends can be exhausting - particularly while you're learning how to breastfeed and adjusting to sleepless nights.
That's exactly why Hollywood couple Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder have decided to embark on "one month of silence" following the birth of their baby girl, Bodhi Soleil on Friday.
"We'll take the baby's first month for ourselves," the Twilight actress told Fit Pregnancy.
"After the baby arrives, we're doing one month of silence. Just the three of us, no visitors, and we're turning off our phones too, so there's no expectation for us to communicate. Otherwise, every five minutes it would be, 'How are you feeling? Can we have a picture?'"
For the 29-year-old, it's all about being "fully present". "You don't get those first 30 days back," she said.
And while the first time parents' approach might sound unconventional, it may not come as a surprise to the couple's loved ones given the pair also delayed sharing the news of their pregnancy.
Thank you @fitpregnancy for such a sweet cover shoot and for allowing me to feel so comfortable talking about some of the most intimate and exciting moments of my life. And of course, thank you for including @bayouwithlove and encouraging a discussion on sustainable fashion and the positive impact that has had on my journey to becoming a mama :) (link in bio)
"We waited months to tell even friends and family that we were expecting," Reed said. "It started out with us not knowing how long we'd keep it private. Then it started to feel like we had this really cool thing, a secret with just each other."
And keeping it a secret made it particularly special. "We started the journey without having to open up about it to anyone else ..."
The couple publicly announced their pregnancy in May with a sweet post to Instagram of Reed's growing belly.
"Hi Little One," Reed captioned the shot. "I know you, but only because I feel you. How is it possible to love someone so much already? All I know for sure is it's the strongest feeling I've ever felt. We've been sharing this body for quite some time, and we've already experienced so much together. We can't wait to meet you..."
