Kate Hudson is facing a backlash for "ignorant" and "offensive" comments about c-sections.

When Kate Hudson quipped that having a caesarean section was the "laziest thing she's ever done", the backlash was swift - and fierce.

Hudson's comments made during a recent interview with Cosmopolitan, have left mothers around the globe furious.

And understandably so.

The mum to 13-year-old Ryder and six-year-old Bingham posted the cover story to Instagram. But she was slammed by her followers for her "ignorant", "shameful", and "offensive" remark.

"Even if it was elective for no medical reason, major abdominal surgery and giving birth still isn't the laziest thing any human being has ever done," one commenter wrote.

"Really, you've never skipped brushing your teeth, stayed in PJs all day, ordered out for multiple meals, fed your kids cereal cause you didn't feel like cooking, wore the same shirt two days in a row, etc. Literally any of those mundane things require less effort and are lazier than a major surgery.

"And maybe if us c-section mums weren't made to feel like sh*t and less than mums for not giving birth vaginally, we could all just laugh this off as a bad joke. Buuut here we are, with the 'natural birth' community shaming us, and comments like this hurt those of us who had no choice."

"I've been a fan for a long time but I was incredibly disappointed to read your comment regarding your c-section," another mum wrote. "How very inappropriate and insensitive. Are you really that out of touch?"

"It's unfortunate you see c-sections as lazy," added another mum. "Mine was the most terrifying and traumatising thing in my life, where both my child and myself are lucky to be alive."

"I am so upset that you would say something like that," one of her followers wrote. "There's already a stigma out there where C-section mums have to inform mothers who've given birth naturally that it's not a walk in the park. I've had mothers tell me since I had my two beautiful babies C-section that I "didn't really give birth" ... Mums need to stick together and this is a really bad representation of C-section mums."

And while many have suggested that Hudson's comment was probably a joke - it's clear no one is laughing.

"I hope you were joking," said one mum, summing up the sentiments of many. " And if you were, it wasn't a funny joke to put out there."

Hudson has yet to respond publicly to the comments.
