Palmerston North free food store Just Zilch has turned to a quintessentially Kiwi comfort food in its time of need.

Store founder Rebecca Culver is selling cheese rolls as a fundraiser for the food store.

The money raised would help with the ongoing costs of the charity, such as power, petrol and paper bags, Culver said.

"People love them. All the South Islanders here need to get in on this."

Cheese rolls aficionados can get their fix by visiting the Just Zilch store on Featherston St, or contacting the charity's Facebook page.

The rolls cost $10 for 18 rolls, and following a big "roll up" event on August 26 and 27, bags of uncooked rolls will be available to be picked up from Just Zilch, or delivered by volunteers.

Just Zilch is a charity that donates food items to those in need.
