Man arrested, charged after fleeing police
A man is facing charges of failing to stop for police and car theft in Manawatū, after he fled on Tuesday.
Police began pursuing a red Nissan hatchback when the driver failed to stop at State Highway 1, near Sanson, a police spokeswoman said.
The driver got to speeds of about 120kmh, before police abandoned the pursuit near Marton, just after 3pm, she said.
However, police found and arrested the driver and another person by 3.30pm.
Two people were taken into custody, but only the man, aged about 28, was charged with failing to stop, driving in a dangerous manner and car theft, she said.
A stolen red Subaru Impreza from Raumati also caught the attention of police in Levin on Monday.
A police chase was abandoned near Cambridge St in the centre of town, about 10am, because of excessive speed and driving manner.
The Impreza had not been found.
