After years abroad, Vanessa Evans has returned to Picton and will be the new manager at Port Marlborough Pavilion.

Moving back to Picton has helped net a passionate sportswoman her dream job.

Vanessa Evans will officially take over from Dale Ashworth as centre manager of the Port Marlborough Pavilion at Endeavour Park in Picton in August.

The busy mother-of-two, who also co-owns Seamus' Irish Bar in Picton, returned to the seaside town at the end of last year.

She thought the chances of finding a job relating to her degree in recreation management were slim.

So when a vacancy came-up at the multi-million dollar pavilion, she jumped at the chance, she says.

"I really did think I'd have to settle for a job as there was always going to be a limited number that would make use of my degree and training.

"When the role came up, I was very excited. "The pavilion really does combine all my interests."

Vanessa has been learning the ropes from current manager Dale since the end of June. The pair have been working hard to ensure the transition goes as smoothly as possible.

When she takes over the reins, Vanessa plans on updating the website and working on attracting more members.
