Marlborough players claim tennis titles
Marlborough's young tennis brigade fared well at the Clarke Construction Marlborough Junior Winter Open, picking up five of the nine singles titles on offer.
The event took place on Saturday and Sunday at the Forrest Winery Marlborough Tennis Centre and was well attended by a field of 75 players juniors from Canterbury, Wellington, Hutt-Valley Nelson along with a number of local players.
Joe Bushell defeated Max Sowman 4-0, 4-0 to win the 8s boys division, Oscar Parkinson downed Oscar Sandford-Jury 6-4, 6-1 to take the 14s boys title while Rhys Blackmore overcame Alex Brogan 6-1, 7-5 in the 16s boys section.
In the girls grade Poppy Parkinson beat Sabia Longman 4-0, 4-1 to win the 8s girls and Lily Parkinson defeated Lottie Fuller 6-2, 6-4 in the 12s girls.
