Central Pirates striker Harrison Pine, who scored four goals against FC Nelson Locomotive at A and P Park on Saturday, lines up another scoring attempt.

There were mixed results from Marlborough sports teams in action at home and away on Saturday.

Football

Central Pirates continued their unbeaten start to the Top of the South league with a 6-0 win over FC Nelson Locomotive at A and P Park.

The Marlborough champions scored five first half goals, four of them to striker Harrison Pine, but struggled to make the most of a mountain of possession and chances in the second spell. Bryce Smith added his second 10 minutes before fulltime to cap a dominant display which saw the visitors limited to a handful of chances by a stingy defence and skilful midfield ball retention.

At Athletic Park, Rangers City drew 4-4 with FC Nelson Reserves. In a see-sawing encounter, Rangers led 4-3 in the latter stages before Nelson popped up with a late equaliser.

Rugby

The Marlborough Red Devils rugby side continued their impressive early form with a 31-17 win over West Coast in Murchison.

After a tight first half which ended with the Marlborough-based side ahead 12-10, they pulled away in the second spell against the dogged Heartland team.

Lock Reyne Volavola scored two of the Red Devils' five tries, Trance Poa, Mike Curry and Aisea Halo the others.

Meanwhile, in Christchurch, the Marlborough Boys' College First XV lost 36-13 to St Thomas of Canterbury College.
