Marlborough Sports Awards softball nominee William Macdonald fires down another pitch.

William Macdonald has been nominated by softball for the 2017 Marlborough Sports Awards.

It has been a breakthrough year for the highly-promising 16-year-old pitcher, highlighted by his selection in the Junior Black Sox side that competed in the under-23 Mens' Friendship Series in Brisbane in July. That event was considered preparation for the naming of the 2018 Junior Black Sox team to compete at the 2018 World Series in Canada.

Macdonald also played a pivotal role for the Marlborough under-17 rep side that won the Mainland Tournament in December, being named in both the tournament team and the Mainland under-17 side that toured in Australia.

The busy ball player represented the Upper South Island under-17 and under-19 sides at their respective national tournaments, being named tournament team pitcher at conclusion of the under-17 event.

After some top-notch work off the mound for the Marlborough Boys' College combination at the New Zealand secondary schools tournament, where they finished third, Macdonald was again named in the tournament team.

He played club ball for Saints Aces and represented the Marlborough senior rep side, earning him the accolade of Marlborough softball's under-19 player of the year.

His nomination is sponsored by Nicholson Contracting 2002 Ltd.
